Ironcially East Indians call themselves Asians, but we rarely consider them as Asians. When we think of an African, we would only think of a black person, but there are loads of whites in South Africa. To Americans, there are only two types in the world - whites and visible minorities (blacks, Asians, Arabs, the others - note: jews are considered as "whites"), which they think things would be more simpler.
