Everyone has his own thinking. Adults would probably reject
interventions of any kinds when they make decisions and
so would teenagers. Therefore, parents should avoid controlling
the minds of their teenage sons and daughters. Parents should
really learn to tell when they should intervene and when
they shouldn't.
When it comes to education, parents should listen to teenage
students. Only students can best understand what they are
interested in. However, many parents choose subjects or
for their children based merely on career opportunities.
Imagine what would happen if you were forced to study something
you have no interest in? It can be expected that the children
would not pay less efforts in study. Therefore, teenagers
should be offered a chance to have a say in choosing which
stream to take in secondary schools.
Also, friends are another factor affecting youngsters.
We would feel comfortable when we spend time with those
like-minded. Despite this, some parents simply do not let
their children have social life. The children are not allowed
to go out even when they have finished their schoolwork.
In fact, all of us need time to relax and parents should
not be too protective. They only need to keep a watchful
eye to see if the companions of their children are trustworthy.
Moreover, some parents would plan all the "leisure"
activities for their kids. They may arrange piano lessons
or language lessons. Of course, they do this out of good
will but have they thought about the pressure the students
suffer? Everyone regardless of their age should have the
right to pursue their own hobbies as long as the activities
are healthy.
It is no denying that when parents make decision for their
children, they would consider what is best for the kids.
However, over-protective parents will hinder their growth.
they can never learn how to distinguish between right and
wrong. No pain no gain. So, let teenagers stand on their
own feet on the road to seek their own identity.
